![]() Once your in the recovery console type the command chkdsk /r and press enter. Once you can boot from the XP cd load as if loading windows then select recovery console option from the prompt. There should be some Toshiba recovery and repair options. Look for any recovery or repair disks and documentation that came with the laptop. This is set from the BIOS also but with Toshiba's I think there is key such as F12 if you keep tapping on start up it will take you to a boot order menu option. ![]() You first must make cd-dvd rom the first boot device. If all else fails try booting from your XP Home CD. The power surge may have fried the onboard NIC and there possibly may be hard drive issues here or even master boot record corruption. Looking at the error message it may be trying to boot from the LAN. ![]() Make sure the Ethernet cable is NOT plugged in when you reboot. You can also reset the BIOS to failsafe defaults this will clear any previous settings. I agree there could be some electrical damage as a result from the power outage.
